Join us for a four-day short break to Looe in South East Cornwall. Looe is a beautiful Holiday Resort town, divided into two distinct parts – East and West Looe – with the Looe river running through the centre of the town. East Looe features narrow streets lined with shops, cafes and pubs. Also, visit the Heligan Gardens and Mevagissey fishing port.
Join us for this short break to Looe in South East Cornwall. Looe is a very popular family Holiday Resort town, divided into two distinct parts – East and West Looe – with the Looe river running through the centre of the town. East Looe features a collection of narrow streets lined with shops cafes and pubs that lead through to the main town beach. Over the years, the town has retained its small fishing fleet, which returns at high tide, to offload their catch alongside the riverside quay at the busy fish market, which dominates the towns east Quay.
We will be staying at The Portybyhan Hotel which is in a beautiful position overlooking the quay. The hotel overlooks the Looe River harbour, this modern hotel on the South West Coast Path is 10 minutes’ walk from East Looe Beach. There’s a relaxed restaurant with harbour views, and a contemporary lounge bar with a rooftop terrace and free WiFi throughout the hotel.
Day 1: We head westwards, for lunch en-route in Morwellham Quay. We arrive at West Looe late afternoon, where you have time to relax after check-in before dinner.
Day 2: Start your day with a full English breakfast then your day is at free time to explore the fishing port, the shops, the Guildhall Museum or if you are feeling adventurous there are the glass bottom boats to take a trip in (not included in trip package).
Day 3: Today we head to Pencarrow House and Gardens home of the Molesworth family since Elizabethan times. The gardens range from formal landscaping to ancient woodlands with a dazzling display of camellias and rhododendrons (more than 400 varieties) the Memorial Garden provides a stunning summer display. Points of interest include the Iron Age hill fort, the sunken Italian Garden with a quatrefoil fountain, the ice house, palm house and ancient Cornish cross. The gardens were designed and laid out between 1831-55 by the radical statesman Sir William Molesworth and boasts the first Victorian rock garden in England.
Day 4: After a leisurely breakfast, we say farewell to Looe and head homeward, stopping for lunch en route. We return to the Blackmore Vale early evening
