The Melplash Agricultural Show 2020 takes place at the Showground, West Bay, Bridport on Thursday 27th August, and is a true celebration of rural life by the sea offering something for all the family to enjoy.

The Melplash Show began from a wager between two farmers at the Half Moon Inn in Melplash. They placed a £5 bet on whose men could plough better. From this initial event, the Melplash Agricultural Society was formed. Ultimately the show became too large to be held in Melplash and in around 1930 it was transferred to West Bay.

It is a showcase event for farming, countryside and rural life, and brings together the very best of West Dorset with animals, food, fun and entertainment.  There is an extensive range of competitive events for local farmers to showcase what they do in the numerous cattle, sheep, pigs and farm produce classes.  For the equine lover there is an outstanding selection of horse and pony classes.  For the rest of the community, there are a host of horticultural, home produce and handicraft classes for the whole family to enter.

There are a wide variety of activities and interactive demonstrations where you can experience of a variety of ‘Farm to Food’ activities. A countryside arena where spectators can watch gun dogs, hawk displays, ferret racing and much more! Enjoy the countryside, learn more about West Dorset as well as meet like minded people – there’s something for everyone.
