Explore the magical Lost Gardens of Heligan, where over 200 acres of Victorian gardens, a spectacular jungle valley, and enchanting earth sculptures await, before discovering the  picturesque working harbour of Mevagissey. Includes garden admission, packed lunch, and free time in Mevagissey.
Discover two of Cornwall’s most enchanting treasures – a magical garden steeped in history and mystery, and one of England’s most picturesque working fishing harbours. Depart Blackmore Vale for a scenic journey into Cornwall, with comfort breaks en route. As the Cornish countryside unfolds around you, anticipation builds for a truly special day ahead.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan – Heligan’s sprawling gardens fell into disrepair after many staff members lost their lives during the First World War, lying forgotten and overgrown for decades until they were restored in the 1990s. Today, over 200 acres await exploration, combining history, mystery, and breathtaking natural beauty.
Wander through the Victorian Productive Gardens, discover the enchanting Italian Garden with its olive trees and ornamental features, and explore the ancient Pleasure Grounds with their woodland walks and romantic hidden grottos. Don’t miss the spectacular Jungle – a narrow valley significantly warmer than the rest of the garden, home to New Zealand tree ferns, bamboo, palms, and giant rhubarb.
Look out for Heligan’s famous earth sculptures – the mystical Mud Maid and the Giant’s Head, which look like they’ve stepped straight out of a fairy tale. Find a perfect spot in the outdoor gardens to enjoy your packed lunch, included as part of your day, surrounded by glorious Cornish scenery.
Mevagissey Harbour – After Heligan, we travel the short distance to the irresistible fishing village of Mevagissey. The historic harbour was once the centre of Cornwall’s pilchard fishery and still contains dozens of small fishing vessels bobbing on clear waters, with winding cobbled streets lined with centuries-old pubs and pastel-coloured cottages. Enjoy free time to stroll the harbourside, browse the charming independent shops and galleries, savour a Cornish ice cream or fresh seafood, or simply sit and watch the fishing boats come and go. There is also a fascinating Folk Museum and aquarium in the old lifeboat house.
Journey Home –Â Board the coach for your return journey with comfort breaks along the way, arriving back in the Blackmore Vale area this evening.
