A superb day out at Windsor, where we will embark on a Land and Water Duck Tour where we will see Windsor and its Castle from river and road and then visit Windsor Castle itself for a self-guided tour of the castle and staterooms.
From the Blackmore Vale we take you directly to Windsor.
We will arrive at 11:00 at Windsor Promenade, where we will explore Windsor by land and sea on a 1-hour duck tour of the historic town. Tick off top attractions such as Windsor Castle, Royal Mews, and Long Walk & Crown Estate, before plunging into the Thames River for a cruise. Throughout the tour, listen to history-rich commentary from your guide. The group may be split in two, if we have more than 26, one group will be on Duck route, the other will be on the Swan.
After the Duck Tour we will move to Windsor Castle itself for a self-guided tour of the castle. Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. It has been the family home of British kings and queens for almost 1,000 years. It is an official residence of His Majesty The King, whose standard flies from the Round Tower when he is in residence.
The commentary provides a lively guide to the Castle’s history, from William the Conqueror, through medieval expansion, George IV’s gothic transformation and The Queen’s use of the Castle today.
Along the route, staff of the Royal Household explain the role of the Castle today as an official residence of The King and talk about their work, from arranging a State Banquet for 160 guests to restoring the historic interiors following the devastating fire of 1992. Woven into the tour are the unique sounds of the Castle, from the music of St George’s Chapel choir to the chimes of the famous collection of clocks.
