Discover the seasonal sights, sounds, smells of Christmas past at Beamish as you join in the celebrations at Pockerley Old Hall, 1900s Town and 1940s Farm. Also visit Chatsworth House which is magically transformed into a Festive Wonderland and hosts one of the UK’s largest Christmas Markets.
A four day trip to visit the Beamish living museum to allow you to experience Christmas in the 1820’s, 1900’s and 1940’s. We will also be exploring Chatsworth House at Christmas and the Christmas Market. We will be staying at the Holiday Inn, Leeds Brighouse.
Day 1: We depart the Blackmore Vale and head to our hotel in Washington with a stop for lunch. We aim to get to our hotel for mid-afternoon where you will have time to freshen up before your three course dinner.
Day 2: Today we head to Beamish for you to spend all day savouring this venue at Christmas. Beamish is the living museum that tells the story of the people of the North East of England in the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods. Set in 300 acres of Durham countryside Beamish shows how life in the North East changed from rural agriculture through more than 100 years of Industrial revolution. Discover the amazing festive sights, sounds and delicious taste of Christmas past. Around the museum you’ll experience the magic of Christmas in days gone by. Join the celebrations at 1820’s Pockerley Old Hall, The 1900’s Town and Pit Village and the 1940’s Farm. Admire the shops and houses decked out in their finery, sample Christmas cooking lovingly baked in coal-fired ranges or find some last minute quirky gifts in the shops in The Town and the Beamish Bazaar.
Day 3: After breakfast, we head to Chatsworth House where within the grounds of the house is a Christmas Market for you to enjoy at your leisure to enjoy the seasonal musical entertainment whilst enjoying warming mulled wine or the German beers on offer or the wide range of gourmet foods. After enjoying the Christmas Market you will be able to head indoors to view the stunning Chatsworth House at its Christmas best. The theme for this year is a closely guarded secret but if previous years are anything to go by you are in for a magnificent display.
Day 4: After breakfast we say our farewells and start the return journey home. A stop for lunch and then a leisurely journey back to Blackmore Vale arriving late afternoon/early evening.
