Settle to Carlisle & Scenic Skipton – Sat 9 to 13 August 2026

Discover the Yorkshire Dales on this railway-themed break. Journey along the legendary Settle & Carlisle Railway and Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway, while enjoying picturesque towns and villages. Based at the Skipton Hotel, you’ll explore dramatic scenery and discover Darrowby from All Creatures Great & Small. This break balances heritage railways, scenic beauty, and Yorkshire charm.

Day 1: Sunday 9th August 2026 – Depart the Blackmore Vale area with comfort stops en route to the Skipton Hotel. We arrive by early evening where you can settle in before your evening meal.

Day 2: Monday 10th August 2026 – Today we travel to Settle to board our train for a journey along the Settle & Carlisle Railway. This route takes you through the Yorkshire Dales National Park, crossing the famous Ribblehead Viaduct with its 24 arches soaring 100 feet above the valley floor. We arrive in Carlisle where we will dine at a local restaurant. Enjoy free time to explore Carlisle’s cathedral and medieval castle before returning to our hotel.

Day 3: Tuesday 11th August 2026 – This morning we visit the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway for a return journey. Enjoy traditional steam and diesel locomotives through beautiful countryside. We then journey to Grassington, the village that serves as fictional Darrowby in All Creatures Great & Small. Wander the cobbled streets and browse independent shops before returning to Skipton.

Day 4: Wednesday 12th August 2026 – The morning is yours to enjoy Skipton on Market Day. Skipton’s market has traded since medieval times with over 60 stalls selling local produce, crafts and clothing. Visit Skipton Castle, or enjoy a coffee. This afternoon, join our boat for a cruise along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal while enjoying cream tea. Glide through the countryside past stone bridges and tranquil landscapes.

Day 5: Thursday 13th August 2026 – After breakfast, we depart for home with comfort stops. We aim to arrive back in the Blackmore Vale area by early evening.
