The UK’s original, biggest and most exciting lantern festival is returning to Longleat. This year, The Festival of Light promises to be even more extraordinary than ever as you step into The Wondrous Worlds of Roald Dahl.

From the Blackmore Vale area, we take you directly to Longleat where we will start the day with a tour through the safari park (except for the monkey enclosure) seeing the animals hopefully in their winter homes. Enjoy incredibly close animal encounters on a winter safari in what was the first ever safari park outside of Africa.

We will leave Longleat returning later and head to The Bell at Standerwick Deverill for your two-course carvery lunch.

After your lunch we head back to Longleat where you will experience Christmas at Longleat as one of the most beautiful stately homes in the land is transformed into a world of enchantment. Then as darkness falls, the Festival of Light is sure to amaze with more than 30 acres of illumination. Embark on a magical journey and meet all of your favourite characters from the Roald Dahl stories. Each lantern scene will bring key moments from the iconic books to life, from The BFG, to Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, to Matilda, The Twits and Fantastic Mr Fox. Marvel at the 5-metre-tall BFG and walk through Wonka’s famous factory gates (just make sure you don’t fall into the chocolate river like Augustus Gloop!) Be amazed by James’ Giant Peach, find yourself awestruck by George’s Marvellous Medicine and be sure not to miss Matilda and Miss Honey!

Also don’t miss the giant 50ft singing Christmas tree with over 300,000 individual twinkling lights. With its house, safari and Festival of Light Longleat has plenty to see and do whatever the weather. Longleat House is set within 900 acres of Capability Brown landscaped gardens, which have been transformed for Christmas. Explore at your leisure and perhaps add your Christmas wishes to the magical wishing tree
