Cross the Solent for a Sunday spent exploring England’s garden island, where a traditional country pub lunch awaits in the rolling countryside, framed by dramatic coastal scenery and island charm.

Your Isle of Wight adventure begins with a scenic ferry crossing from Lymington to Yarmouth, leaving the mainland behind as you glide across the Solent toward this beautiful island gem. Time permitting, we’ll journey along the spectacular south coast to Alum Bay, home to the island’s most iconic landmark – The Needles. Marvel at those famous white chalk stacks rising from the sea, their striped lighthouse standing sentinel, while the multi-coloured sand cliffs (displaying an incredible 21 different natural shades) create one of Britain’s most photographed coastal scenes.

Then it’s time for the main event: Sunday lunch at The Chequers Inn in Rookley, a historic country pub nestled in the heart of the island’s beautiful countryside. This isn’t just any pub – it’s been lovingly run by the Holmes family for 28 years, housed in a building that once served as a Customs and Excise house. Settle in for a delicious two-course lunch showcasing the very best of island produce, surrounded by views of rolling fields and that genuine Isle of Wight hospitality that makes every meal memorable.

After lunch, perhaps take a stroll.  or simply relax with the knowledge that someone else has done all the cooking and washing up! Throughout your journey, enjoy Vale Coaches’ signature service – where feasible, complimentary drinks , with biscuits and chocolates to complete the experience.
