A relaxed day out – Join us for Lunch before a journey on the Tiverton Canal Company’s horse-drawn barge. Listen to the clippety-clop of the horse on the Grand Western Canal and enjoy the Devon countryside slowly moving by.
Leaving from Blackmore Vale at about 9:00, we take you directly to Tiverton, Devon.
We will start the day with lunch. We will be offered a two-course carvery lunch at The Tiverton Hotel (vegetarian and vegan options available) before we join our barge for our one-and-a-half-hour trip.
Being one of the last remaining Horse-Drawn Barges in Great Britain, a trip on the “Tivertonian” offers a truly unique and memorable living heritage experience of a time before steam . . Expect a magical time on your trip getting to know the staff, heavy horses, barge and wildlife.
You will be taken along the beautiful Grand Western Canal Country Park and Local Nature Reserve, with its wildlife, the distant clip-clop of the horse’s hooves and the gentle ripple of the water, It’s an experience that will take you back to times gone by of yesterday year, before even steam was invented. . . There will be a guide on the barge to enhance your trip with exciting tales from the days of horse-drawn barges and some interesting facts about the old Grand Western Canal.
