Escape to the heart of Wales for a memorable journey through dramatic valleys, heritage railways, and historic castles. Based in the Victorian spa town of Llandrindod Wells, you’ll explore Mid Wales’ most spectacular scenery, from Devil’s Bridge to medieval Powis Castle and the wild beauty of the Elan Valley.

This break combines two of Wales’ finest narrow-gauge railways with remarkable historic sites and stunning Cambrian Mountain landscapes. From scenic steam journeys to guided tours of beautiful estates, every day brings discoveries.

Day 1: Sun 23rd – Depart the Blackmore Vale area with comfort stops en route for the Metropole Hotel & Spa in Llandrindod Wells. We arrive by early evening, where you can settle in before your evening meal.

Day 2: Mon 24th  – Today we board the Vale of Rheidol Railway in Aberystwyth for a spectacular journey to Devil’s Bridge. This narrow-gauge steam railway climbs 12 miles to Devil’s Bridge, where three bridges span a dramatic gorge. You’ll have an hour to explore, including the famous waterfalls plunging 300 feet. After our return, enjoy free time in Aberystwyth, then return to our hotel.

Day 3: Tues 25th – This morning, we board the Welshpool & Llanfair Railway for a single journey through eight miles of beautiful Powys countryside to Welshpool. After free time in Welshpool, we visit Powis Castle, a magnificent medieval fortress built in the 13th century. Continuously inhabited for over 700 years, Powis houses exceptional treasures and world-famous gardens.

Day 4: Weds 26th – This morning, we journey to the Elan Valley, featuring dramatic reservoirs and dams which together create a wonderful living landscape,  wild moorland, and ancient woodlands. We enjoy a guided tour by an Elan Valley Ranger on the coach, sharing stories about Victorian engineering and wildlife. This afternoon is yours at leisure in Llandrindod Wells or to relax at the hotel.

Day 5: Thurs 27th – After breakfast, we depart for home with comfort stops en route. We aim to arrive back in the Blackmore Vale area by early evening.
